Say Goodbye to Chin Hairs

Raise your hand if you’ve ever plucked a chin hair. I’ll be honest; I’ve plucked a few upper lip hairs, too, but those never seem as dark or thick—especially the ones that appear right under your chin and borderline neck area, which are truly awful.

I got so fed up with the maintenance that I finally saw my doctor about it.

Tell me something to keep the chin hairs away

I wanted to know why I got so many hairs compared to my friends. After a physical exam, some tests, and a good old-fashioned chat, she told me I had PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome), and that was likely causing my unwanted facial hair.

I had several friends with PCOS, so I knew some of the treatments, like birth control and even some androgen suppressants, but I wanted to try lifestyle changes first. I asked what she suggested, and she gave me a daunting list.

  • Diet – Greatly reduce or eliminate sugar and processed foods as they stimulate insulin levels, and PCOS is often linked to insulin resistance.
    • In turn, eat more whole foods, fiber, and healthy fats.
  • Exercise – Get moderate exercise at least three days a week to improve insulin and hormone levels.
    • She stressed it didn’t need to be HIIT and actually recommended less intense options like yoga, pilates, walks, and traditional strength training.
  • Stress – LESS of this. Chronic stress can increase cortisol levels which can upset hormonal balance and exacerbate symptoms like chin hair growth.
    • Do something that calms you: read, listen to a podcast, take a bath, meditate, etc.

Okay, maybe it wasn’t daunting in length, but the diet changes sounded hard, and I am a stress ball by nature, so this was going to be interesting. I asked if there were any supplements she recommended for extra help—cause I wanted all the help I could get!

She told me to add these into my routine:

  • B complex – Supports mood, may help fight insulin resistance
  • Berberine – Improves insulin resistance and reduces the secretion of the hormone leptin, aka the hunger hormone
  • Magnesium –Helps maintain healthy blood sugar levels; low levels have been linked to insulin resistance
  • Zinc – Has a positive effect on insulin resistance and lipid balance

I started researching the best brands to purchase for each but was getting a little overwhelmed by the price when adding them all together. There had to be a supplement that combined them all.

There was.

The perfect supplement for PCOS

Semaine’s The Daily Hormone Balance had all four recommendations plus passionflower—fantastic for a calming effect—and grapeseed extract—which supports heart health and complexion. Semaine was started by two sisters with endometriosis and PCOS. And this vitamin was intentionally formulated with PCOS in mind.

I started digging through the reviews and saw people talk about their PMS symptoms decreasing, their complexion clearing up, and LESS CHIN HAIRS. Honestly, that’s all I needed, but their clinical trial data was compelling, too.

  • After 1 week
    • 49% had better moods
    • 53% had fewer cravings
  • After 1 month
    • 70% had better moods
    • 73% had more energy
  • After 2 months
    • 76% had fewer cravings
    • An average 46-point decrease in cholesterol

So, on top of not having to pluck as often, this multivitamin would also decrease my cravings and chance of insulin resistance, enhance my moods, and increase my energy!? SIGN. ME. UP.

Getting back to myself

I ordered the three-pack to give my body enough time to build up the nutrients to affect my hormones. I noticed the decrease in cravings first and a feeling of being fuller longer about a week in. By week two, I was feeling less stressed overall. By the time I reached the end of the first bottle, I felt like I had more energy throughout the day. I was even able to push myself a little harder in workouts.

I was so thrilled at all these changes that I hadn’t even noticed I hadn’t plucked any new hairs. One day, I was just looking in the mirror and thought, “Oh my gosh, I can’t remember the last hair I plucked.” I inspected my chin and neck and couldn’t find anything to remove. It worked.

I had such success in the first month that I signed up for a subscription because I knew I couldn’t live without this supplement ever again. If you’re a PCOS girlie, please do yourself a favor and grab The Daily Hormone Balance. It will change your life in the best way.

    • 1 a day, 2 if you are feeling symptomatic. It’s generally well tolerated with or without food, but we always think it’s best to start any new supplement with food just in case.

    • They have many customers who take Semaine with their HRT. Best to consult with your doctor before starting any supplement though!
