Peri/Menopause and Libido

You Too Can Drink From the Fountain of Youth

You know that saying, “Married people don’t have sex anymore.” Well, I think it should be changed to, “Menopausal women don’t have sex anymore.”

I didn’t realize not having my period also meant giving up my sex life. As if the hot flashes, night sweats, and hair falling out weren’t enough, a non-existent sex drive was also included in the peri/menopause package I never ordered. I thought the opposite would be true. Not having to plan around my period or the kids’ schedules seemed like the recipe for more intimacy.

I was wrong.

Something’s gotta give

I made an appointment with my doctor because I was not okay with never feeling “in the mood” anymore. She explained that my estrogen was declining (which I knew) and that it not only affects the vaginal canal’s elasticity and lubrication but also can lower desire and make it harder to become aroused.

I mean, come on! Can we ever catch a break with this anatomy?

She told me that if dryness was a factor, lubricant could be helpful, which it was, but it didn’t help with my libido. I wanted to want to have sex again. Like back in my 20s.

I was presented with the option of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) but after seeing the list of side effects, I wasn’t convinced it was right for me.

  • Breast pain or tenderness—No thanks
  • Dizziness or light-headedness—Pass
  • Headache—Heck no
  • Rapid weight gain—AS IF
  • Swelling of feet and lower legs—Already been pregnant, thanks
  • Vaginal bleeding—I thought my period was over

I asked about a miracle pill, and she laughed but said I could look into supplements if I wanted to. I figured why not. Seriously, what’s the worst that could happen? I literally had nothing to lose.

Down the rabbit hole

So, I started googling and found a lot of supplements out there. I was combing through symptoms each tackled as well as reviews. I didn’t want to have a whole shelf of supplements I needed to take. I wanted one that could do it all. I know, I was asking for a lot, but honestly, after everything I’ve dealt with as a woman, I felt entitled.

I kept seeing rave reviews for this Peri/Menopause Essentials supplement by Semaine. It stood out to me because it not only covered more than your average peri/menopause symptoms, but you also only need to take one small pill per day. Yep, just one. It helps with

  • Hot flashes & night sweats
  • Mood swings & energy levels
  • Dry skin & thinning hair
  • Brain fog & sleep
  • Libido

Okay, so libido isn’t something that is actually listed on their end, but reviewers mention it which intrigued me. Based on all the symptoms it would handle, I was thinking I was about to get my youth back.

Another bonus for me was the ingredients were simple and things I could pronounce. And there were only three.

  • Red clover extract alleviates menopause symptoms via their phytoestrogens. It also supports bone health and promotes overall well-being.
  • Olive fruit extract is rich in antioxidants known to enhance skin thickness and moisture, and combat aging when exposed to light.
  • Bergamot phytosome is effective in managing cholesterol, blood lipids, and visceral fat accumulation.

But wait, there’s more! These babies are doctor developed and clinically studied. The results from the clinical trials are really strong. Like, hurry-up-and-order-me strong.

  • After 1 month
    • 74% reported better sleep
    • 76% reported fewer hot flashes
  • After 2 months
    • 79% reported better moods
    • 86% reported less brain fog
  • After 3 months
    • 94% reported thicker hair
    • 100% reported less discomfort

I was sold.

My personal fountain of youth

I felt like a kid in a candy shop when my order arrived. I ripped open the box, tore off the plastic seal on the bottle, and immediately took a dose. I was ready to get my life back.

I didn’t happen overnight but seriously, within the first week I felt a difference. My hot flashes were disappearing, I was sleeping better, and I felt less moody. I knew I needed to be consistent to see the results start stacking.

And stack they did. I started noticing my skin feeling less dry and my brain fog lifting. And my libido was starting to ramp up. My husband was the one who really noticed that one. He said I was acting like a teenager again. Mission accomplished.

Sure enough, I was soon noticing less hair in the shower drain and, in my brush, and almost no peri/menopause symptoms hanging around. I wanted to shout from the rooftops!

Seriously, if you’re struggling with any peri/menopause symptoms but especially if you’re looking for a libido boost, you gotta get this. I put mine on auto-ship because I can’t live without it. Right now, you can

    • Semaine works hard to ensure their supplements are safe, particularly for those with a family history of breast cancer, though the data can be unclear and it’s important for you to know the details. They recommend consulting a doctor for cancer concerns or ongoing treatment.

Menopause Essentials contains red clover, a phytoestrogen chosen for its ability to relieve menopause symptoms. However, red clover hasn’t been specifically studied in individuals with breast cancer or on Tamoxifen, though animal studies suggest no interaction.

      Other key ingredients:

Olive Fruit Extract: Rich in anti-inflammatory polyphenols, which may reduce menopause-related inflammation.
Bergamot: Supports metabolism and heart health, aiding in weight management during menopause.

For those avoiding phytoestrogens, Daily Hormone Balance is a non-phytoestrogen alternative that doesn’t interfere with Tamoxifen. It helps regulate metabolic hormones, blood sugar, and blood pressure. In a recent trial, 65% of users experienced relief from night sweats after two months.

  1. Can I take this if I’m post menopausal but continue to suffer from symptoms of menopause

    • It totally can still help. It’s really about treating the symptoms. So if you are still dealing with night sweats, hot flashes, hair thinning, low libido, dry skin, or joint/muscle pain… we might be able to help you feel better!

    • There are no known interactions between any Semaine supplements and SSRIs (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors), which are commonly prescribed for depression and anxiety. They have many customers who take Semaine with antidepressant or antianxiety medications in fact. However, as with any supplement, it’s always a good idea to discuss with your healthcare provider, especially when you’re taking prescription medications. They can provide personalized advice considering your specific health needs and medication regimen.

  2. I’m curious would this help with peri menopause migraines?? I’m desperate to find something because I’m scared to try the HRT medication.

    • They do have customers that use this supplement to deal with peri/menopause headaches. It could definitely help!

    • Always good to check with your doctor first, but yes there are many Semaine customers who are also doing HRT!

  3. I havent tried this yet but it def looks promising and the price doesn’t break the bank. I know bergamot essential oil is good for depression, so that’s another plus 😀
